History

Maintenance and Sustainability Africa (MSA) was founded in 2015 out of a deep concern for the growing culture of neglect and waste in African communities. What began as a small youth initiative focused on promoting maintenance culture has grown into a national movement advancing environmental sustainability, plastic recovery, and community development. Over the years, MSA has built partnerships with churches, traditional councils, schools, and municipal assemblies, leading projects that promote responsible living. From humble beginnings, MSA has evolved into a leading voice in Ghana’s transition to a circular economy, driven by innovation, collaboration, and youth empowerment.

Who we are

Maintenance and Sustainability Africa (MSA) is a youth-led non-profit organisation established in 2015 to promote a culture of maintenance and sustainability across Africa. We believe that lasting change begins with responsible stewardship of our environment, our resources, and our communities. At MSA, we are driving Ghana’s transition toward a circular economy by transforming culture into opportunities for innovation, sustainability, and community development. Through our Faith in Action Plastic Recovery Programme, we partner with churches, schools, traditional councils, and local governments to reduce plastic pollution, empower informal waste pickers, and build cleaner, greener, and more resilient communities. We are redefining the culture of maintenance in Africa by connecting economic, agricultural, and environmental sustainability through practical, youth-led action.
